The Stain Commission is the joint commission of Institutes of Legal Medicine and Forensic Science in Germany. It was founded by the German Society for Legal Medicine in the 1980s and consists of four members each from Institutes of Legal Medicine and Forensic Science.
Its head is Prof. Peter M. Schneider (Institute of Legal Medicine, Cologne University). The GEDNAP Proficiency Tests for quality assurance in the field of forensic stain analysis and DNA typing are conducted by Prof. B. Brinkmann’s Institute of Forensic Genetics (Münster) according to the regulations and under the supervision of the Stain Commission.
In addition the Stain Commission drafts recommendations, e.g. for the interpretation of mixed stains and of DNA database hits.
